Job Description: English Teacher: Language and Literature (Secondary School) (Starting from August 2025)
 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly qualified and passionate English teacher to join our secondary school, focusing on the Cambridge curriculum for Key Stage 3 (KS3), Key Stage 4 (KS4) and Key Stage 5 (KS5). As an English teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons, promoting a love for literature, and fostering strong language skills among our students. This is a full-time position, and the successful candidate will play a vital role in shaping our students' language proficiency and academic success.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Develop and deliver high-quality English lessons in accordance with the Cambridge curriculum for KS3 through KS5 (English Language and/or Literature). Design and implement lesson plans, ensuring they are well-structured, engaging, and cater to the diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
  • Classroom Management: Establish a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and fosters a love for English. Effectively manage classroom behavior, maintain discipline, and ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods aligned with Cambridge curriculum standards. Provide constructive and timely feedback to students, helping them identify areas for improvement and develop effective study habits.
  • Differentiation and Individualized Support: Identify individual learning needs and adapt teaching strategies accordingly. Provide additional support to students who require it, including those with special educational needs or English as an additional language (EAL), to ensure their progress and inclusion within the classroom.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development: Collaborate with colleagues in the English department to share best practices, resources, and teaching strategies. Participate actively in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay updated with the latest developments in English education.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement. Attend parent-teacher conferences and respond promptly to inquiries or concerns.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Contribute to the school's extra-curricular activities, such as literary clubs, debate or writing competitions, to promote a wider appreciation for English language and literature among students.




 

Qualifications and Skills:


 

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (a postgraduate qualification is desirable).
  • Proven experience teaching English at the secondary school level, preferably with experience in delivering the Cambridge curriculum for KS3 and KS4.
  • Strong knowledge of English language, literature, grammar, and writing conventions.
  • Familiarity with Cambridge assessment standards and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Effective classroom management skills to create a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with current educational trends and research.
