Role Description
As an Associate Pixel Artist at Mambo CN (Shanghai office), you will play a key role in crafting pixel art assets and contributing to the visual identity of our game projects. This hybrid internship offers hands-on experience in a collaborative environment, where you will work closely with designers, developers, and animators to bring creative visions to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and create high-quality pixel art assets for characters, environments, UI elements, and animations.
- Utilize Sprite workflows for 2D asset optimization and integration into game engines.
- Implement basic Spine rigging and animation for 2D skeletal animations.
- Collaborate with the art and development teams to ensure assets align with project art direction and technical requirements.
- Assist in importing and optimizing assets in Unity , ensuring compatibility and performance efficiency.
- Support 3D artists with basic modeling/texturing tasks in Maya or Blender (e.g., props, simple environments).
- Participate in creative discussions to refine artistic styles and solve visual design challenges.
Required Qualifications
- Proficient in pixel art creation with a strong portfolio demonstrating style versatility and attention to detail.
- Hands-on experience with Sprite workflows (e.g., sprite sheets, texture atlases) and basic Spine 2D animation/rigging .
- Familiarity with Unity for asset implementation and scene setup.
- Foundational knowledge of Maya or Blender for basic 3D modeling tasks.
- Understanding of game art pipelines, including optimization for performance and memory constraints.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
- Strong communication skills in English (mandatory); Chinese proficiency is a plus.
- Pursuing or holding a degree in Game Art, Digital Media, Fine Arts , or a related field.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with 2D animation principles and timeline-based tools (e.g., Aseprite, Photoshop Animation).
- Basic knowledge of UI/UX design for games.
- Interest in retro/modern pixel art hybrid styles.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
