The Department

One of the key roles of the External Affairs Department ("EA") is to act as a bridge between The Hong Kong Jockey Club and external stakeholders, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government ("HKSARG") Legislative Council, political parties and other non-governmental organisations. EA is responsible for formulating and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies, as well as maintaining amicable working relationships and facilitating effective communication with these stakeholders to support the Club’s plans and business operations. It also advises other departments on latest government, legislative and political issues which may impact the Club.

Reporting to Senior Manager, External Affairs (Government Relations), the job holder is responsible for supporting the Government Relations Team ("GR") to maintain and strengthen the Club's relationships with key stakeholders [including the HKSARG and government related organisations], lobby their support for the Club and its initiatives, as well as provide advice to other divisions and assist their operations which require HKSARG's approval or assistance.

The Job

You will:

  • Assist in formulating and implementing comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies for EA to develop an effective and reliable network of relationships with HKSARG.
  • Assist in devising stakeholder engagement action plans and provide support in organising stakeholder engagement activities (e.g. Club-facility visits, racedays, business meetings, etc.).
  • Assist in supporting major Club projects and other tasks which involve HKSARG or require its assistance.
  • Assist in conducting desktop research and well-organised briefs, decks, reports and analysis on a wide range of government policies to facilitate the Club's business development and operation.
  • Assist in monitoring news and latest government policies relevant to the Club's business and operation and report on their impacts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

About you

You should have:

  • A recognised university degree in public administration, affairs or relations, communication, journalism or media studies, and/or any other related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in HKSARG, public body, public or external relations, corporate communications, public administration and/or journalism.
  • Good understanding of and sensitivity to government policies which may be relevant to the Club.
  • Good knowledge of current issues and the operation of HKSARG.
  • Good command of English and Chinese.
  • Candidate with more experience will be considered as Manager, External Affairs (Government Relations)

Terms of Employment

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualification and experience. A contract employment will be offered to the successful candidate. Contract renewal will be subject to mutual agreement between the Club and the selected candidate.
