Overview

The Harbour School is a community-oriented organization that values its employees and supports continued growth and education of all its staff. Our primary and middle school faculty is composed of grade-level teams which include a qualified or certified educator, a learning specialist with a special education degree or certificate, and an educational professional who provides support to the class teachers in all areas of classroom management, small-group instruction and administrative support. 

These education professionals, known within the community as “co-teachers”, gain instructional experience while they assist in all duties in the classroom and at the school throughout the school year.   They are a valued member of the faculty and class community as they enhance the positive development and experience of students in the school. 

Person Requirements

This individual must have a strong vocation and interest in education, pedagogy or Child/Adolescent Development.  Having prior experience working with primary age students in an education setting, or currently being enrolled in a tertiary degree or certificate in Education is a requirement for this role.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • They will be expected to provide support in  all aspects of managing a classroom including, but not limited to,
  • Positively and proactively managing the behavior of students in their care.
  • Help ensure a positive and inclusive classroom culture is being followed 
  • Provide small-group instruction
  • Address the class as needed
  • Attend parent meetings
  • Provide feedback with report writing 
  • Take up ad-hoc duties instructed by their mentor teachers 
  • Support organizational and administrative needs such as classroom systems and set-up
  • Establish rapport with students and colleagues throughout all assigned tasks throughout the school day.
