Provide legal advice, transaction support and perform legal risk management in relation to the corporate and investment banking business of MUFG within APAC, including (i) corporate banking coverage, (ii) investment banking products including project finance, aviation finance, acquisition finance, real estate finance, export credit finance, commodity finance and ESG finance (ii) capital markets transactions including syndicated loans and bonds transactions. Note: this role will carry responsibilities for both MUFG Bank, Ltd., and MUFG Securities Asia Limited.
Liaise with clients, external lawyers and other transaction parties on transactions within the designated product coverage.
Collaborate closely with Head Office Legal in Tokyo, international legal functions in other regions and other local legal units within the branches and subsidiaries of MUFG within APAC
Be an independent guardian and trusted business partner by providing commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice in a cost effective and timely manner to MUFG
Be proactive in the provision of legal consultancy services and guidance to business units on material legal developments with regards to a broad range of products, services and issues.
Ensure that MUFG APAC’s senior management is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes
Support group-wide projects, litigation matters, plan and support MUFG local legal offices across APAC' management of legal issues and liaise and coordinate with external legal counsels
Support Head of Legal, Asia Pacific by engaging in global, regional and/or country initiatives, supervise and manage legal affairs in Asia, optimize internal and external legal resources.
Job Requirements:
Common law qualified lawyer, including US/ English / Hong Kong / Singapore / Australia.
8-15 years of post-qualification working experience.
High level of familiarity with banking and finance transaction documents including Loan Market Association based finance documents.
Prior in-house legal experience in a financial institution (corporate and investment banks) would be an advantage.
Strong technical knowledge of legal framework surrounding finance transactions generally, and possess strong document drafting skills
Good knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to finance and banking
Broad experience across banking and lending, wholesale/investment banking products and capital markets.
