Reporting to the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer and Head of Operations (Scientific Branch), the Lead Scientist II will manage the Health Informatics Unit within the Medical and Scientific Branch, leading a team of bioinformaticians to deliver bioinformatics analyses for research projects. The role includes managing computational resources, optimising data analysis pipelines and partnering with sequencing service providers. The incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Health Informatics Unit to deliver high-quality bioinformatics analyses for research projects
- Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of bioinformatics analyses, ensuring adherence to timelines and effective resource management
- Develop, optimise, and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines for short and long-read sequencing data analysis in line with international standards
- Ensure quality and accuracy of bioinformatics analyses and their interpretations
- Manage computational resources to support ongoing and future research projects
- Evaluate and implement new bioinformatics tools and technologies to enhance analytical capabilities and efficiency
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Scientist (Genome Diagnostics and Precision Health) on tertiary analyses
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with sequencing service providers for technical support and collaboration
- Communicate effectively with clinicians, developers, and other stakeholders to facilitate project advancement and knowledge sharing
- Provide regular updates on project status and key findings to the management
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Lead Scientist II (Health Informatics) who possesses:
- A doctorate degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related disciplines
- At least 10 years of working experience in bioinformatics, preferably focusing on clinical and industrial applications
- At least 5 years of leadership experience managing a bioinformatics data analysis team
- Extensive experience in developing and operating data analysis pipelines for short and long-read sequencing technologies
- Preferably a strong publication record demonstrating expertise in bioinformatics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills

Remuneration:
Successful candidate will be offered attractive remuneration and be appointed on an initial two-year contract (subject to mutual agreement for contract renewal).
