We are currently looking for a Finance & Accounting Manager / Financial Controller to bring his / her knowledge and expertise to the firm.

The ideal candidate will assist with a variety of tasks, including financial management and reporting, compliance and auditing, and additional operational tasks. They will play a crucial role in supporting our finance and accounting department and ensuring the efficient operation of our office.

 

Position Overview

We seek an experienced Finance & Accounting Manager / Financial Controller to lead our finance and accounting function, ensuring robust financial management, compliance, and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in professional services (preferably legal) and a proven ability to manage financial operations in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow) and present insights to senior management.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to align with firm-wide goals.
  • Monitor cashflow, liquidity, and working capital to optimize financial health.

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure adherence to Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (HKFRS), tax regulations, and legal industry compliance (e.g., Solicitors Accounts Rules).
  • Lead annual audits and liaise with external auditors/regulators.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.
  • File profit tax, and other statutory returns accurately and timely.

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Partner with senior leadership to develop long-term financial strategies.
  • Analyze profitability by practice area/client matter to guide resource allocation.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and mentor a small finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
  • Collaborate with HR on compensation planning and benefits administration.
  • Advise partners on financial implications of business decisions.

Systems & Process Optimization

  • Evaluate and implement financial software (e.g., QuickBooks) to streamline workflows.
  • Automate reporting processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA/ACCA/CMA certification is an advantage.
  • 7–10 years of progressive finance experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services.
  • In-depth knowledge of Hong Kong tax laws, HKFRS, and Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Fluency in English (written/spoken); Chinese is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
