A Brief Overview

Leads, manages, and directs the end-to-end reporting process for various types of reinsurance, including YRT, Coinsurance, and other arrangements, under the applicable reporting bases, primarily US GAAP / LDTI, as well as US Statutory, IFRS 17, or other bases as necessary. Creates a vision for how to build a high performing team to transition valuation support from the US to the region, particularly Hong Kong and Japan.

What You Will Do

  • Builds a high performing team in the Asia Pacific region to transition the Valuation work being done in the US.
  • Leads, manages, and directs the end-to-end reporting process for the Valuation team which supports the Financial Solutions and hybrid business in the region.
  • Has broad and comprehensive understanding of relevant valuation bases, particularly US GAAP/ LDTI, but also IFRS 17 and US Statutory.
  • Uses awareness of most areas of life, health, critical illness, deferred annuities, payout annuities, and reinsurance valuation to implement processes. Applies knowledge to complex business problems to support Financial Solutions business.
  • Provides support and advisement to multiple RGA functions including Business Development, Accounting, country- and product-specific valuation teams, Corporate modeling, and others.
  • Contributes to reporting processes globally including but not limited to Principles-Based Initiatives (PBI), Plan, Statutory reporting, end-user reporting and management reporting

Required

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science or related field
  • Actuarial accreditation at the fellowship level
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP reserving for traditional insurance, limited pay, universal life, and investment contracts. Alternatively, strong understanding of a similar valuation basis such as IFRS 17 or US Statutory Principles Based Reserves
  • 15+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance/reinsurance
  • 3+ years of experience in managing teams
  • Advanced actuarial modeling skills in open platforms such as Prophet or MoSes

Preferred

  • Stochastic modeling and/or asset liability management experience
  • Familiarity with traditional life, critical illness, deferred annuities, including fixed, equity-indexed and/or variable annuities, pensions and other longevity products
  • Familiarity with fixed income investments, understanding of asset modeling techniques and capital markets
  • Familiarity with most Prophet Libraries including Asset Liability Strategy (ALS), US Life and Annuity 360 and US GAAP Cohort Library
  • Expert knowledge of local regulatory environments
  • Reinsurance industry and/or merger and acquisition experience
  • 5+ years experience managing teams

  • Proven track record of persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of life insurance, longevity, institutional and/or annuity products
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, Statutory, and Tax valuation and financial reporting
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously
  • Ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives
