The Department

The English Broadcasting team is responsible for providing live coverage of race meetings in Hong Kong, overseas simulcast meetings and programmes and content that promotes Hong Kong racing across the world.

The job holder reports to the Executive Producer (English Broadcasting) and is responsible for ensuring high quality racing commentary, an appealing presentation in racing programmes, and the incorporation of related topics of interest in order to provide a comprehensive, informative and entertaining racing and wagering service to our audience.

 

The Job

You will:

  • Race Day
    • As part of the presentation team for our live trackside TV coverage, delivering well-researched and detailed racing presentation in an accurate and entertaining manner which caters to different viewers around the world
    • Accurately provide racing and betting information to local and international viewers
  • Inbound Simulcast Races
    • Handle live simulcast presentation; preparing technically accurate, well-researched and detailed commentary for inbound simulcast programmes for knowledgeable racing viewers whilst also catering for the needs of a general audience
    • Develop interesting and informative programming concepts. These programmes should effectively incorporate racing and wagering information, video clips on Hong Kong racing, information on Club facilities and operations, profiles of trainers and jockeys, special promotions on principal featured races, and recorded and live interviews
  • Non Race Day
    • Prepare form for each race meeting and work on our racing preview programmes. You will need to demonstrate excellent presentation skills with an in-depth knowledge of racing, wagering and Hong Kong form.  You will also recommend short and long-term ideas and concepts to enrich these programmes.
    • Prepare and conduct live and pre-recorded interviews with jockeys and trainers
    • Prepare in-depth information and is a readily accessible information source on trainers, owners, jockeys and horses before races which is to be used for developing commentary, preparing special interviews and conducting track work analysis for pre-race programmes
    • Work on TV Specials for International Group 1 races
    • When required, travel to Conghua Racecourse to present showcase meetings and barrier trials
    • Provide voice-over services and professional recommendations; assist in enhancing the voice-over quality of in-house videos
    • Review all translated scripts to ensure that the content flows smoothly and the data and terminologies are accurate
    • When required, host Racing Club or Member events
  • General
    • Ensure compliance with RGP and all stipulated legal requirements pertaining to wagering, thereby protecting the integrity of the Club’s business
    • Undertake other duties assigned by the Executive Producer, English Broadcasting

 

About You

You should have:

  • Professional racing television presentation experience and expertise
  • A well-rounded education, preferably with Tertiary education
  • Proficient TV or radio voiceover experience
  • Knowledge gained through experience in an equestrian environment
  • Well acquainted with the horse racing industry; possesses solid knowledge in the sport of horse racing and a thorough understanding of racing & equine topics & terminologies
  • Capability to analyse races, racing records and determine the relevant information for use in the lead-ups to each race
  • Ability to create a dynamic, likeable on air personality with a pleasant and professional appearance
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is a must
