Job Responsibility Including But Not Limited To:

  • Ensure accurate and complete information on lab testing requests and validate in the Next fabric approval system
  • Sign off test reports in the Next fabric approval system and communicate with factories on failures while consulting the UK for exceptions
  • Provide input in the lab dip stage regarding performance with support from dyestuff and chemical suppliers
  • Responsible for color approval
  • Screen bulk hangers for appearance and handfeel
  • Sign off the wearer trial on the fabric performance side and liaise with QA to assess garment fit for purpose
  • Participate in regular order progress/ risk assessment meetings with merchandising to address potential delays related to fabric issues
  • Collaborate with QA, merchandisers, garment factories, and fabric mills to troubleshoot fabric technical issues
  • Conduct mill evaluations and evaluate mill grading with corrective actions
  • Lead fabric pre-production meetings on high risk fabrics and manage adherence to set standards
  • Communicate with spinners, dyers, knitters, weavers, dyestuff, and chemical suppliers on new technology (raw materials, techniques, design) and provide feedback to sourcing, PD, merchandising teams, and UK technologists
  • Assist in technical trials and pilot runs agreed upon in pre-production
  • Communicate with UK technologists to resolve fabric issues and prevent late garment delivery
  • Manage and mentor Fabric Technologists
  • Champion Sustainability projects
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders

 

Skills & Requirements

  • Degree holder in textile technology, textile chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of working experience in the fabric industry, with 1-2 years in a fabric mill or dye house preferred
  • Familiarity with all kinds of fabric testing standards, particularly those relevant to the UK market
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with fabric mills, factories, and merchandisers in troubleshooting fabric technical and development issues
  • Excellent command of both spoken and written English
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Immediate availability preferred
  • Candidate with less experience will be considered as Fabric Technologist
