About the Role

Britannia has a great opportunity for an Assistant Claims Manager or Claims Manager to join us in handling Protection & Indemnity and/or Freight, Demurrage and Defense claims (if applicable) for the Britannia Membership covered by the Hong Kong office, which currently includes Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan. Key Responsibilities

The role holder will have responsibility for handling allocated P&I and/or FDD (if applicable) claims, and related tasks in accordance to the directions from the Divisional Director Claims and the Claims Department’s manual and guidelines.


You will provide an exceptional claims service to the Club’s Members within designated authority levels which includes:

  • Handling P&I claims and assisting the Divisional Director Claims.
  • (If applicable) Handling FD&D claims and providing advice on non-contentious issues (e.g. reviewing contracts and charter party clauses).
  • Other duties include estimation of files, attending meetings as necessary, meeting visiting correspondents and lawyers and preparation of file notes.
  • To assist with the handling of claims occurring in Hong Kong in the capacity of the port correspondent.
  • Manage Member contractual reviews including service agreements, terminal agreements, and armed guards contracts etc.
  • To provide general advice and assistance as required by the Members.
  • To attend and contribute to internal meetings as appropriate.
  • Ad hoc duties as required.


About You

Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of claims handling experience, preferably gained from within a P&I Club, lawyers, ship owners or ships agents.
  • Working knowledge and experience of P&I and cargo related claims and capable of managing casualty cases to a high standard.
  • Familiar with maritime liabilities.
  • Education to degree level or equivalent (maritime is desirable).
  • Open to both qualified (Hong Kong / England & Wales) and non-qualified candidates.
  • FDD involvement if applicable: If you are qualified, you will also be involved in FDD matters.


Skills

  • Computer literate and familiar with all MS Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Knowledge of insurance software is desirable e.g., Electronic Document Management System or BPMS System
