Main responsibilities
You Will Lead a Team Of Journalists And Oversee The Production Of Text, Video, And Social Content, As Well As Innovative Editorial Projects, To Serve Both BBC News Chinese’s Audience And The Wider BBC Audience. Also
- Originate and produce highly impactful and in-depth coverage of Taiwan-related topics with an international perspective or context, ensuring alignment with BBC’s editorial standards, style, and guidelines.
- Produce quick-turnaround content, such as explainers, in response to social issues and trending events, ensuring it meets audience needs
- May be required to undertake on-air reporting and host interviews.
- Serve as an in-house authority on best practices for digital and social content production, particularly in the context of BBC News Chinese, testing and reporting on digital initiatives while staying abreast of industry trends and developments.
- Actively seek ways to reach younger and female audiences, introducing and implementing strategies to enhance engagement with them.
- Collaborate with graphic designers to produce creative and original graphic sequences.
- Work with Editors to execute the editorial strategy and increase impact across BBC News Chinese’s digital and social platforms.
- Track data analytics across website and social platforms daily and at other regular reporting intervals to meet BBC News Chinese’s digital targets.
- Use analytics to guide digital and social story choices, ensuring content is delivered in the most effective format(s).
- Find, verify, and obtain permission for the BBC to publish UGC videos relevant to breaking news or emerging trends.
- To act as a facilitator of change, clearly communicating and distributing best practices between teams.
Are you the right candidate?
- Full command and up-to-date knowledge of written Chinese and spoken Mandarin as a first language (or equivalent), along with complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of data analytics and experience in using it to shape content and meet the needs of different audience groups.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Taiwan, mainland China, and Hong Kong affairs, with the ability to oversee the production of impactful, original digital content as well as coverage of major breaking news.
- Experience in commissioning, editing, structuring, and writing sharp, engaging, and in-depth news and current affairs content across a range of digital formats, as well as generating ideas to reach wider audiences.
- Ability to write quickly, clearly, and engagingly, as well as to sub-edit or rework Chinese-language scripts for use across all platforms.
- A successful track record in a digital production environment, with demonstrable experience in social media and audience interactivity.
- A clear understanding of the needs and profile of the target audience, with the ability to translate these insights into imaginative and compelling content solutions across text, video, and social media.
- Excellent social media and digital literacy, including expertise in digital video production, audience engagement, and content optimization both on and off-site.
- Familiarity with BBC editorial policies and practices, as well as journalistic laws, including copyright regulations.
- Ability to identify potential stories through social media platforms and lead the production of engaging content for BBC News Chinese’s audience.
- Demonstrable experience in working productively and collaboratively, with the ability to define clear roles, responsibilities, and goals for their team.
