West Island School is seeking a proactive and creative Communications Manager to spearhead our comprehensive communications strategy. This role encompasses managing social media, print and online communications, advertising, marketing, and major fundraising initiatives in coordination with the Principal and the ESF Centre. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing the school's visibility and engagement within our diverse international community. This is a permanent full-time position aimed to start immediately after the Easter break, with medical and MPF benefits and an option of four weeks unpaid leave during summer break.

Role Summary:

  • To oversee all school communications, including social media, print, and marketing efforts.
  • To ensure high-quality internal and external communications that adhere to branding guidelines.
  • To assist in organizing and marketing school events, managing ticket sales and public relations.
  • To demonstrate an outgoing personality to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and enhance school visibility.

Communications

  • Oversee all internal and external communications, ensuring high standards of quality, consistency, and alignment with branding guidelines.
  • Proofread and edit materials to enhance clarity and impact.
  • Streamline distribution of communications via the school app and email, ensuring timely updates for the community.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and edit various school communications, including weekly newsletters, Print/digital yearbooks, annual reports, and promotional materials.
  • Manage and enhance the school’s website, newsletters and social media presence, promoting a positive image of the school.
  • Attend Communication Development meetings at the ESF Centre to share best practices and align on initiatives.
  • Respond to press inquiries, maintaining a log of media interactions involving the school.
  • Coordinate official school photographs, including liaising with photographers and organizing schedules.
  • Supervise the Display Coordinator to ensure internal communication boards are engaging and informative.

Alumni Development

  • Support the growth of the Alumni Association through ESF Connect and collaboration with the ESF Alumni Development team.
  • Manage the alumni website and database, ensuring up-to-date content and information.
  • Promote the Alumni Association to graduating students and assist in organizing events such as reunions.
  • Create and develop publications for alumni, including newsletters and promotional materials

Events

  • Assist in the organization and marketing of school events, from promotional materials to ticket sales and public relations efforts.
  • Collaborate with event coordinators to ensure successful execution and visibility of school events

Community Development

  • Develop and implement strategies for effective communication and fundraising programs.
  • Support PTA-led fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities

Marketing

  • Collaborate with the Admissions Secretary and Business Manager to create and execute marketing strategies aimed at attracting new students.
  • Promote the school’s profile to external audiences, enhancing community awareness and engagement.

General

  • Support effective crisis communication strategies, including responses to inclement weather and other emergencies.
  • Lead training sessions for staff and students on communication practices and basic graphic production.
  • Oversee student yearbook CAS activities, fostering student involvement in communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including mutually agreed-upon objectives or specific projects.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably in an educational or international environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with an ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies.
  • Creative mindset with strong attention to detail.

Abilities & Knowledge

  • Strong collaborative and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Flexibility to manage a diverse range of tasks simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in both written and spoken English, and proficiency in Cantonese/Chinese preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively as a team player.
  • Capability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
