Reporting to the Director, Product Development, the Technical Designer Manager, will be responsible for co-lead APAC Technical Design team and supporting the product development to implement Under Armour Development Strategy for the Asia-Pacific region. This role will implement robust technical standards, systems and processes and decisions with a high-level of expertise and knowledge.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Contributes and leads a team of developers responsible for the development of one or more product categories from design concept to production garment
Communicate with offshore vendors on all technical issues and a stronger understanding of fit and aesthetic
Manages workload and build/reviews technical package for one or more category. Collaborates with cross functional team to meet calendar deliverables
Manage day-to-day operations, overseeing the APAC Technical Design Team and monitoring product development timelines and quality standards
Managing product documentation, including technical specifications, vendor manuals and other system training materials.
Able to identify fit issues, perform fit adjustments and communicate changes to improve fit and function
Owns cross functional meeting communication for the development team. Must be able to effectively problem solve design, costing, quality and delivery issues
Ability to dynamically deliver product presentations related to fit and construction
Conducts fit sessions on live models, including size sets, and is responsible for developing and training junior technical designers on fit competencies and protocols.
Directly responsible for creating 2D/3D pattern blocks with advanced understanding of grade rules and size scale manipulation to achieve best fit/visual across a size range
Responsible for adherence to global fit standards fit integrity and compliance across all categories
Ensures compliance to seasonal fit direction and ensures adherence to global fit standards
Consistently reviews specifications and grade to ensure relevance in the market
Analyzes artwork to identify risk, establish artwork standards and troubleshoot quality issues
Independently communicates with vendors to problem solve all issues related to garment engineering
Work with factories and costing teams to optimize garment engineering for fit, performance and cost
Identifies opportunities for sketch library and process enhancements
Domestic and overseas travel as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITES:
Must have leadership experience, including managerial experience
Expertise building Development & Production Tech Packs
Must have experience managing a product category
Must have superior written and verbal communication skills; must be able to lead product presentations in a clear, concise, and engaging manner
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year Fashion Design program
Minimum of 8 years in technical design or product development experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Factory experience preferred
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, a PLM system, Excel and Gerber or Optitex PDS
Advanced 2D patternmaking skills; must have on the job experience (classes and/or theory does not qualify)
3D pattern experience preferred
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Advanced experience fitting on live models and virtual models including size sets
Advanced knowledge of garment construction
