Role purpose


Claims executive: A qualified lawyer of 2 years plus PQE to work in handing a variety of P&I and FD&D claims.


As a Claims Executive, you'll leverage your legal expertise to manage a variety of P&I and FD&D claims in the Greater China area. With over 2 years of post-qualification experience, you'll handle claims efficiently, maintain compliance, and build strong relationships with Members and brokers. You'll collaborate with colleagues, support business development, and contribute to claims initiatives, all while keeping Members informed. You’ll also be involved in claims handling work to support the club’s other product lines, such as Strike & Delay, Coastal & Inland, etc. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering excellent service.


Key Responsibilities


  • Handle a high-volume and variety of P&I and FD&D claims, for owners and charterers in accordance with P&I policies and procedures; ensuring claims are resolved in an efficient and cost-effective manner to the satisfaction of the Member, and with a clear strategy from the outset.
  • Ensure regular, accurate and timely reporting to the Head of P&I Claims or Head of FD&D in line with procedural requirements and any triggers advised from time-to-time.
  • Managing relationships with Members and brokers, ensuring they receive the highest levels of service.
  • Close collaboration with colleagues working within the different functions in the Sector, as well as with Loss Prevention.
  • Preparing agendas, reports, and informing the Sector of any significant developments, as required by the Head of P&I Claims or Head of FD&D.
  • Working closely with the Head of P&I Claims or Head of FD&D and other colleagues, as required, to support any business development activities and networking with Members and customers (locally and overseas).
  • Supporting the Head of Sector and Head of P&I Claims and Head of FD&D to build and maintain a high-performing and inclusive team environment, including ensuring workloads are well managed and protecting the wellbeing of colleagues, while collaborating with our enabling functions.
  • Actively contributing to claims initiatives and Expertise Teams.
  • Settling third party P&I claims at the most economic figure possible, in accordance with the Rules and the Member’s Terms of Entry.
  • Appointing lawyers, surveyors, consultants and correspondents and to receive and evaluate critically advice received.
  • Ensuring that Members are kept adequately informed at all stages of a claim and understand both their and the Club’s position in any situation.
  • Participating in out of hours emergency telephone rota.


About you


Skills/Qualifications/Experience


Essential

  • Understanding of the basics of P&I and FD&D claims and the P&I insurance industry
  • Basic knowledge of shipping terms and common ship operations
  • Basic knowledge and experience in dealing with P&I/Non-P&I matters
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
  • Proficiency in Mandarin, both written and spoken.


Desirable

  • Hong Kong Qualified Solicitor or equivalent in other jurisdictions
  • Willingness to undertake IG PANDIQ exams or read IG PANDIQ material where the material is relevant to the role
  • IT Literate with the ability to quickly adapt to new systems
  • Ability to assist with cases in a controlled, efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to cope with demanding workloads
