We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Freelance Desktop Support Engineer to provide IT support to businesses and individuals on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues, ensuring optimal system performance and user satisfaction. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills, a customer-focused approach, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide on-site and remote desktop support for clients, resolving technical issues related to Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network problems, including desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
  • Install, configure, and update operating systems, software applications, and security patches.
  • Assist with email, VPN, and cloud services configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Set up and maintain user accounts, permissions, and security policies.
  • Provide guidance and training to users on basic IT functions and best practices.
  • Conduct system upgrades, backups, and data recovery when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with security protocols, antivirus, and endpoint protection solutions.
  • Document troubleshooting steps and provide detailed reports for each support case.
  • Collaborate with IT teams or vendors to escalate and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Desktop Support Engineer, IT Support Specialist, or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows (10, 11, Server), macOS, and Linux environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Active Directory, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Wi-Fi, LAN/WAN troubleshooting).
  • Hands-on experience with hardware repairs, system imaging, and remote desktop tools.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple clients.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator, or ITIL are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a freelance or contract-based IT support role.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and remote management tools (e.g., Zendesk, TeamViewer, AnyDesk).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and endpoint protection solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot VOIP systems, printers, and mobile devices.
Compensation:
  • Payment is project-based or hourly/daily rate pay depending on agreements.
  • Flexible working hours with opportunities for recurring contracts.
