Main Responsibilities:

  • Department Management: Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the Makerspace, ensuring efficient logistics, including materials preparation, storage, ordering, maintenance, and administration
  • Technical Support: Provide assistance to students and staff in resolving technical challenges, leveraging your specialized knowledge and experience
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Implement and enforce health and safety procedures, promptly reporting any issues to the Head of Department to ensure a safe working environment
  • Resource Preparation: Prepare materials and resources as requested by teachers to facilitate effective teaching and learning
  • Workshop Organization: Ensure all areas are organized and ready for use, including proper storage of equipment and materials
  • Collaboration with Faculty: Work alongside the teaching team to promote a culture of innovation and creativity, championing STEM initiatives throughout the school
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment to identify maintenance needs, advising the Head of Department on repairs or replacements
  • Examination Preparation: Assist in the preparation of internal and external examination materials
  • Curriculum Development Support: Contribute to the review of Schemes of Work (SOWs) by advising on suitable teaching methods, materials, and resources
  • Annual Planning: Collaborate with the Head of Department to develop an annual maintenance plan and coordinate holiday work related to equipment upkeep
  • Supervision: Occasionally supervise senior school students as needed, ensuring a supportive and safe environment

Essential and Core Competencies:

  • Good general ICT skills and computer literacy
  • Good spoken and written English, Chinese is highly desirable
  • Knowledge and direct experience of manufacturing technologies (hardware and software) in the area of CAD/CAM e.g. preparation of G-code, use of 3D printing software such as Cura or similar, an understanding of 3D CAD software such as Autodesk, safe use and understanding of CNC machines
  • Knowledge and direct experience of other general workshop equipment, machinery and hand tools and their use
  • Understanding of the creative culture of the Maker movement
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and serve as a resource for faculty
  • Commitment to student learning, personal growth, and professional development
  • Genuine excitement for and ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and parents
  • Certificate of Safety Training from DATA (Design and Technology Association) Or equivalent
  • Preference for 3 years working at the level of graduate engineer or similar in a relevant technical field
  • An understanding of applied programming, control technologies and robotics
