THE JOB

Reporting to the Assistant Sports Science Manager of the Scientific Conditioning Centre, the Sports Science Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To plan and conduct exercise testing and training monitoring to help athletes optimize their performance;
  • To perform exercise data analysis and interpretation, prepare detailed reports, and provide advice to athletes, coaches, and other supporting staff when appropriate;
  • To design and implement evidence-based conditioning and rehabilitation programs in collaboration with colleagues to address athletes’ needs and evolving competitive demands;
  • To manage all data from training/competition into the central database;
  • To provide both local and overseas on-field support to elite sport teams;
  • To operate a range of lab equipment safely in compliance with the standard protocols;
  • To perform operational tasks, quality control, maintenance and updating of testing equipment;
  • To assist in research projects; and
  • To perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by senior staff.

THE REQUIREMENTS

  • A university degree in science, engineering, sports science, or related disciplines;
  • Two years full-time working experience in related disciplines or two years full-time experience as an athlete within a high performance system and exposed to applied sports science;
  • Good interpersonal and planning skills; ideally with some leadership experience;
  • Able to work irregular hours and perform under pressure;
  • Holder of valid first aid, CPR and AED certificate;
  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office, experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., VBA/ Python/ R, Power BI) is an advantage;
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. The ability to speak Cantonese and Putonghua is an advantage; and
  • Awareness / knowledge of Child Protection in sport and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong.
