Reports To: Senior Performance & Efficiency Engineer
This role is part of the aircraft Performance & Efficiency Engineering team within the Flight Operations Department, which consists of flight crew and ground staff, working together to ensure the highest standards of operational efficiency and safety
As a Performance & Efficiency Engineer, you will be responsible to undertake aircraft performance, operations engineering and weight & balance tasks in meeting regulatory safety and operational efficiency requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Develop methodologies to calculate aircraft performance data accurately for Flight Operations, to meet regulatory safety and operational efficiency
- Provide aircraft performance data for flight crew operations manuals, flight planning system, and analysis reports for internal and external parties (e.g. OEM, HKCAD, AAHK, etc.)
- Evaluate new aircraft performance, new routes and/or cabin services configuration. This is to support planning teams on payload, fuel burn and flight time studies in meeting commercial and operational requirements
- Design programs or methods to improve the analysis of engine inoperative departure procedures for studying airports, and to provide appropriate guidance for flight crew operations manuals
- Develop and maintain performance databases for aircraft manufacturer performance applications, such as Flysmart and OPT
- Develop analytic tools to measure fuel efficiency and environmental emissions with the aim of providing accurate forecast fuel budget reports to management and other departments to meet commercial and sustainability requirements
- Develop and implement efficiency initiatives to improve operational efficiency and meet sustainability goals
- Liaise closely with internal and external parties on fuel issues and related environmental emissions targets
- Produce and maintain the airline’s Weight & Balance manuals and reports; and act as an approver when qualified
- Perform cumulative and shear load calculation and produce aircraft weight and CG index data for the airline passenger and freighter computer loading systems.
- Implement aircraft performance design changes to CPA Group aircraft proposed by manufacturers to ensure operational safety and efficiency
- Conduct classroom training on aircraft performance to flight crew when required.
- Conduct noise violation investigation and design operational procedures to mitigate future infringements
- Fly as an observer in both revenue and ferry flights to gather and analyse in-flight performance data, contributing to operational safety and efficiency
Requirements
Knowledge
- Aeronautical or relevant background
- Aircraft performance regulations & requirements
- Airbus / Boeing aircraft manufacturer’s software and application programs
- Degree in Engineering/Science discipline
Skills
- Strong analytical, numerical, and programming skills
- Good computer literacy in modern languages and analytics tools
Experience
- Over 6 years of working experience in aircraft performance, operations engineering, and weight & balance
- Experience with Tableau, Flysmart / Onboard Performance Tool applications, and manufacturer software would be a definite advantage
- Candidates with less qualifications and experience may be considered as an Assistant Performance & Efficiency Engineer
