Technical Officer (24250121)

The Academy of Visual Arts is the first-of-its-kind local institution in delivering Visual Arts education, which is looking for responsible and energetic team player to join the technical team. The appointee is expected to provide support to both teaching of courses and administrative duties of studios and will be stationed at the Kowloon Tong Campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the media arts studios, including organising materials, maintaining comprehensive inventory of tools and equipment, and assist with procurement as needed equipment, ensuring a well-organised and safe working environment;
  • Assist instructors in preparing teaching materials and tools, providing technical guidance and support in-class and after-class to students at all levels on teaching materials, techniques, and processes;
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to establish lab schedules, safety protocols, troubleshoot any related issues; and develop and execute art-tech projects, workshops, and events;
  • Foster a positive and inclusive studio environment that encourages experimentation and creativity while prioritising the safety of students and the studio;
  • Ensure a safe studio environment; and
  • Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, Media Production, Creative Media or a related field with at least 1 year of post-qualification experience, or equivalent practical experience;
  • Extensive knowledge and proficiency in media art production and programming techniques, such as TouchDesigner / Unreal / Unity, Python / C#, Grasshopper / Blender / Fusion360 / Rhino, etc.;
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining electronics and microcontrollers;
  • Keen awareness of emerging trends and advancements in arts and technological opportunities;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic studio environment Self-motivated and be able to work independently;
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and be a good team player; and
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. 

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
