We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Gallery Curatorial Assistant based in Hong Kong to support our gallery’s curation and research initiatives. The ideal candidate will assist the curatorial team in researching artists, contributing to exhibition narratives, developing key curatorial documents, and ensuring the gallery operates smoothly. This role requires a passion for art, strong research and organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the curatorial team to bring exhibitions and gallery projects to life.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Curation Support
Conduct detailed research on artists, artworks, and relevant themes to support exhibition planning and gallery projects.
Assist the curatorial team in identifying and pitching artists for upcoming exhibitions and collaborations.
Contribute to the development of exhibition narratives, providing insightful input on curatorial concepts and themes.
Assist in the preparation and refinement of key curatorial documents, including exhibition outlines, artists pitch, Highlights and artist profiles.
Stay informed about current trends in the art world relevant to the gallery’s program.
Exhibition and Operational Support
Assist with the logistical planning and setup of exhibitions, including preparing artist materials, supporting space and design development, and supporting installations.
Provide administrative support, such as maintaining detailed records of exhibition planning, artist communications, and research findings.
Support the creation of communication materials, such as exhibition texts, press releases, and social media content in collaboration with the marketing team.
Visitor Engagement
Offer insights to gallery visitors about ongoing exhibitions, artists, and the gallery’s mission, fostering deeper engagement with the art.
Participate in guided tours as required, contributing a curatorial perspective to enhance the visitor experience.
General Gallery Requirements
Ensure the gallery maintains a clean, welcoming, and visually appealing environment at all times.
Assist with exhibition setups, event preparation, and private viewings as required.
Collaborate closely with team members to maintain a professional, inclusive, and inviting atmosphere for all gallery visitors.
Monitor and document visitor interactions and feedback, providing insights to continuously enhance the overall gallery experience.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Arts Management, or a closely related field required.
Experience
Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience in curatorial roles, research positions, in cultural institutions including but not limited to art galleries, museums and auction houses.
Strong research and writing skills in English (preferably in Chinese as well), with the ability to analyze and present complex ideas clearly.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in using software for research and documentation (e.g., Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva).
Languages
Fluency in English and Cantonese required; Mandarin proficiency is a plus.
