Fund or Department Description

AlpInvest is a leading global private equity investor with over $79 billion of assets under management as per March 31, 2024, with secondaries representing more than $33 billion in AUM. The company has approximately 240employees based primarily in Amsterdam, New York, Hong Kong, London and Tokyo. AlpInvest is part of The Carlyle Group.

Position Summary

AlpInvest Partners seeks to hire an Analyst with a focus on secondaries. Located in our Hong Kong office and reporting to the Managing Director & Head of APAC Secondaries and Global Head of Primaries. The Analyst is expected to play a key role in providing support in investment functions including financial modeling, valuation, analysis of private equity investments, preparation of investment recommendations, as well as various ad hoc reports and projects as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Applying critical thinking and judgement in the review of PE investment opportunities
  • Constructing detailed financial models, performing industry and competitive analysis, and conducting investment or financial analysis to complete due diligence requests
  • Monitoring of on-going portfolio companies through interactions with GPs, and review of financial information
  • Developing relationships with GPs through annual meeting attendance
  • Preparing periodic investor updates and conducting analyses and support work in developing relationships with the Secondaries team's LP base and fundraising activities
  • Support the senior members of the Secondaries team in the execution of transactions

Requirements

Education & Certificates

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business-related discipline (accounting, economics, etc.), with above average results

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience at an investment bank, private equity firm, management consulting or similar setting, with exposure of a wide range of transactions, valuation work and due diligence assignments

Competencies & Attributes

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word & PowerPoint, and savvy with technology
  • Strong research and analytical skills as well as superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Background in analyzing technology investments is considered an advantage
  • Familiarity with financial modeling, valuation methodologies and accounting principles
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, including senior management
