My client is a real estate group that has been around for over 50 years that engages in development whilst managing a portfolio of investment properties around the region.

Your new role

The General Counsel will provide strategic legal advice and support to the executive management team. This role involves overseeing all legal aspects of real estate transactions, development projects, and corporate governance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in real estate law, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex legal matters.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal guidance to the executive team on all matters related to property development, including acquisitions, sales, leasing, and financing.
  • Lead the structuring, negotiation, and completion of complex real estate transactions within tight timeframes.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with property development projects and corporate operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including zoning, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors, contractors, and joint venture partners.
  • Oversee and manage any litigation or disputes involving the company, working with outside counsel as necessary.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of attorneys and paralegals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures to promote and protect the company's interests.

Requirements

  • HK qualified lawyer with a minimum of 15 years PQE
  • Proven track record of managing complex real estate transactions and legal matters
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Experience working in-house for a property development company
  • Knowledge of local real estate market and regulations
  • Experience with joint ventures and private equity investments
