The Department of Physics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is looking for a Project Co-ordinator II to help manage the various projects in the JC STEM Lab of Astronomical Instrumentation and to assist with opto-mechanical development tasks. The Lab’s research focuses on developing advanced astronomical instrumentation, including custom high efficiency, fiber-based, large beam spectrographs and a wide range of imaging and illumination systems.

The appointee will be responsible for project management of various projects carried out by the lab, and assisting in the mechanical design and development of various opto-mechanical components required for the project. Duties include (a) dividing and subdividing project tasks; (b) defining priority of the tasks; (c) tracking task initiation, completion and delivery; (d) defining critical path and its dependency on tasks; (d) directing subsystem managers on interface control documentation and their dependency on critical path; (e) managing procurement of commercial or custom parts; (f) scheduling, communicating and ensuring reviews of subsystems; (g) assisting the Director in drafting and negotiating contracts with collaboration partners; (h) assisting with or be in charge of the design and development of opto-mechanical components; and (i) developing and checking 2D drawing given Solidworks files provided by other mechanical engineers.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree in related disciplines; (ii) a good command of English and Chinese; (iii) project management experience in relevant areas; (iv) mechanical engineering experience; and (v) excellent communication skills.
