Internship: Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care
This one-year training program is designed for those looking to advance their careers in veterinary medicine within a fully staffed emergency service and intensive care unit. If you are at the beginning of your veterinary journey, this is a unique chance to engage in cutting-edge clinical service and education in one of the world's most vibrant cities.
Program Objectives:
Exceptional Patient Care: The primary aim is to provide outstanding care and treatment for emergency and critical patients, ensuring that interns advocate for their needs and develop accurate diagnoses and clinical management plans
Effective Communication: Interns will enhance their communication skills by engaging with clients, referring veterinarians, and other general practitioners, emergency, and specialist veterinarians at VMC, fostering a collaborative environment for optimal patient outcomes
Operational Excellence: Interns will learn to maintain high hospital standards, prioritize work schedules, and perform tasks efficiently, demonstrating reliability and professionalism in all aspects of their duties
Leadership Development: The internship aims to cultivate leadership skills by providing opportunities to supervise and mentor nursing staff and students, encouraging interns to take initiative in problem-solving and policy development
Veterinary Performance and Skills Enhancement: Interns will gain hands-on experience in veterinary care, including consultations, diagnostics, and procedures, while developing their technical skills in emergency and critical care settings
Commitment to Professional Development: The program encourages ongoing education and skill enhancement, requiring interns to engage in continuing education activities and pursue additional qualifications, such as memberships or residency programs
Self-Reflection and Performance Improvement: Interns will participate in regular performance reviews, fostering a culture of self-reflection and continuous improvement in clinical and professional practices
Working Arrangements:
4-day work week, including one weekend every two weeks
An equal balance of day and night shifts
Start Date: August 2025

ECC interns are encouraged to pursue further training and development opportunities, which may include:
Memberships and or fellowships of the Australia and New Zealand college of Veterinary Science
Residency
Post-graduate student
Veterinary specialist
Advanced general practitioner
Veterinary academic
Who Should Apply?
This program is ideal for candidates who have completed a small animal rotating internship or have at least one year of experience as a qualified veterinarian and are seeking advanced training in Emergency and Critical Care
A veterinary degree that is eligible for registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong is required
Strong proficiency in both written and spoken English is essential. Proficiency in Cantonese is a plus but not mandatory
