West Island School is seeking to appoint a dynamic, committed, and reflective professional to join our Senior Leadership Team:

Key Responsibilities

The role provides opportunities for strategic leadership, and managing a range of teams across different areas of the school.

The appointed candidate will: 

  • Consistently champion and uphold the school’s core values and foster supportive relationships.
  • Support and promote the school’s vision, mission and IB Learner profile.
  • Develop and articulate a shared vision and strategic development plan for the school/phase, leading colleagues in its achievement.
  • Create an atmosphere of mutual trust, encouraging collaboration, discussion, debate and teamwork.
  • Model exemplary professional practice and integrity in all actions.
  • Contribute to the development of West Island School as a professional learning community, fostering a spirit of inquiry, innovation, professional learning and reflection.
  • Promote high standards and expectations by supporting and evaluating performance.

The responsibilities of this role will be determined based on the needs of the school and the skills and experience of the successful applicant.  In broad terms this position provides leadership and support,  directly or indirectly, in these areas:

  • Curriculum development
  • Pastoral care (safeguarding, child protection)
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Assessment practices
  • Staff development 
  • Parent and community engagement
  • Overseeing Trips and extra-curricular activities 

Educational Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a teaching subject with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education)/PGDE, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience within a recognized educational organization; including significant experience in a prominent leadership role
  • Candidates must demonstrate a proven record of commitment to extracurricular activities and community engagement. 
  • Additional strengths and experiences will be taken into account to encourage flexibility across the team.

  • Demonstrated ability to effect and manage change, driving forward-thinking educational initiatives.
  • Model exemplary professional practice and integrity in all actions and decision-making.
