Lead Privacy Counsel - Digital Financial Solutions


My client is seeking an experienced Lead Privacy Counsel to support the digital financial solutions business of a leading international financial services company. This role is ideal for a tech-savvy privacy lawyer with a passion for data and a desire to work on innovative projects in the fintech sector.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, technology, business development, risk management, legal, compliance, and AML professionals. Your strategic guidance will ensure business growth and innovation while maintaining compliance with data privacy laws and regulations. Additionally, you will establish and implement a comprehensive privacy governance framework to meet regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities


Product Advisory:

  • Provide expert privacy support for product launches and initiatives across the APAC region, while collaborating with global teams for broader projects.
  • Analyze products, policies, and initiatives to offer practical risk assessments and solutions.
  • Promote and implement privacy-by-design principles, translating privacy considerations into actionable product features.
  • Assist the legal team with contract drafting and negotiations concerning privacy-related matters.


Privacy Governance / DPO Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage privacy compliance frameworks for licensed entities, ensuring adherence to jurisdiction-specific privacy regulations.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in privacy legislation, advising on potential impacts to the business.


Requirements

  • Qualified to practice law in a common law jurisdiction with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Professional working proficiency in both Mandarin and English.
  • Proven ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment, providing clear, concise, and actionable legal advice under tight deadlines.
  • Practical approach to problem-solving, offering creative and commercially-minded counsel.
  • Experience in the financial services or payment processing sectors is preferred. Familiarity with technology companies (e.g., SaaS, social media, AI, or app-based services) is a plus.
