Specialist, Business Legal, Consumer Banking & Private Banking
Group Legal, Compliance & Secretariat ensures that the bank's interests are protected by zealously guarding and enhancing its reputation and capital. Responsibilities
Provide overall legal support to Consumer Banking Group (“CBG”) and Private Banking (“PB”) , including but not limited to:
manage legal risks arising from the activities and operations undertaken by CBG & PB;
provide critical risk assessment of transactions, structures and new initiatives;
review and advise on existing and new laws and regulations;
review and where applicable, assist to negotiate contracts and agreements with CBG & PB counterparties;
review and revise customer-facing documentation;
work with the relevant CBG & PB business units and support units to develop and maintain standard documentation templates for specific transactions, structures, products or operations;
work with CBG & PB business units and support units, where necessary, to develop and issue guidelines on specific matters to manage legal risks;
assist in investigation, mediation and complaints; and
manage key litigation by and against CBG & PB.
Manage CBG & PB‘s relationships with external law firms to ensure high quality, practical and succinct advice in a timely and cost effective manner
Participate in key projects and initiatives of CBG & PB
Support CBG & PB Legal team members and other Legal team members, including Group Legal on any regional projects and initiatives
Work closely with Compliance and FCSS to manage DBS’ regulatory risks
Ensure valid and legally binding legal documents correctly reflecting the rights and obligations intended, and within risk acceptance thresholds
Effective litigation management
Promote legal risk awareness across CBG & PB
Maintain strong internal relationships, acting as a professional and value-adding partner with the business and support units
Timely escalation of significant legal and regulatory developments, incidents and concerns to the relevant parties and proactively finding and developing solutions
Maintain good team spirit and working relationship with other team members
Requirements
Law degree from a common law jurisdiction. Hong Kong qualified lawyer preferred
A minimum of 3 years’ relevant legal experience in the finance or banking industry from law firm or financial institution
Good knowledge of relevant banking, securities and other financial services related laws or regulations and operations as well as knowledge on the different products and services offered by CBG & PB
Excellent people management and communication skills
Ability to build strategic working relationship with all business and support units as well as external regulators
Good business focus with insights, innovation and the ability to balance risks and controls and foster risk awareness culture in the bank
