Research Assistant Professor in Plant Metabolism and Biochemistry (24250110)

We are in search of a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our research team as a Research Assistant Professor in the area of Plant Metabolism and Biochemistry. The successful candidate will work closely with our interdisciplinary team of researchers to identify novel functional proteins and develop innovative strategies to characterise proteins and produce compounds that promote health and hold commercial value. The initial appointment is for 2 years, and this is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

• Engage in collaborative research to explore and understand plant metabolic and transport processes;
• Advance our knowledge of functional proteins in plants;
• Develop new methods to express and purify proteins;
• Develop novel approaches for biochemical characterisation of proteins;
• Publish and disseminate research findings in peer-reviewed journals;
• Contribute to the collective goals of our research team;
• Assist supervisor in mentoring postdocs, PhD and BSc students;
• Contribute to research proposal applications; and
• Teaching opportunities will be provided when available. 

Requirements:

• A Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Biochemistry, Plant Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a closely related field;
• Demonstrated experience in areas such as secondary metabolism, plant biochemistry, plant biotechnology, metabolic engineering, or synthetic biology;
• Proficiency in biochemical and analytical techniques, including but not limited to molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, confocal microscopy, bimolecular fluorescence complementation, co-immunoprecipitation, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS);
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities;
• Ability to conduct research independently while effectively engaging in a team environment;
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; and
• A proven record of scientific productivity evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
