JOB DESCRIPTION

Renaissance College requires a temporary Primary Chinese Teacher starting from 22nd April to June 27th, 2025

Renaissance College is a leading educational organization. Teachers at the school are expected to exemplify excellent professional practice which leads to high standards of learning and teaching within the curriculum. Teachers are also expected to support the wellbeing and co-curricular work of the school and be reliable in exercising their daily responsibilities. Educators embrace learning diversity, modelling, advocating for, and nurturing high expectations for learning amongst students in their care. Within their teaching teams, teachers collaborate with a team of educators (including themselves as well as educational assistants). Teachers must also be skilled at collaborating with single-subject teachers from across the school as well as members of the Learning Enhancement Team (LET) to live our vision, mission, and Bedrock Principles.


Working as part of a team under the guidance and direction of the Head of Chinese (Primary), the teacher is expected to fulfill the following roles:

  • Guided by the curriculum, provide learning experiences for every student corresponding to their needs, abilities, and stage of development, by teaching a programme that gives each student the opportunity to experience success, and which challenges each student to achieve their full potential;
  • Demonstrate and apply an in-depth knowledge of the language and learning of the language  for native (first-language) and non-native (first-language) learners in the subject of Chinese;
  • Possess English language competence to support students’ ability to translanguage,  engage in professional dialogue and professional development, and document learning and teaching in English when needed;
  • Use structured inquiry to nurture learning, relying on student data to inform teaching;
  • Establish effective and positive relationships with students based on mutual respect, recognition of the individuality of each student, affirming their identity and sense of belonging;
  • Provide a safe, effective, challenging learning environment and an attractive, welcoming classroom that is conducive to learning;
  • Teach students, as timetabled, employing assessment for, of, and as learning practices including feedback to feedforward;
  • Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and achievement of students in accordance with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) expectations and the assessment policy/guidance of Renaissance College;
  • Collaborate and cooperate with other staff (whole school) on the preparation and development of a progression of learning, teaching resources, in alignment with leading learning & teaching practices used at the school; 
  • Safeguard the health & safety of children;
  • Keep up to date on teaching and international education developments, sharing enthusiasm and resources with colleagues;
  • Regularly refer to professional learning and curriculum resources (sourced from MyIB [PYP Resource Centre], RCHK PHI platform & the Primary Staff Handbook);
  • Attend professional meetings which relate to curricular, administrative and/or organisational matters as required; scheduled by the Year-level leader(s), Curriculum Coordinators, Primary Leadership Team, or College Leadership Team;
  • Participate in the school system of cover for absent teachers;
  • Participate in arrangements for preparing students for standardised assessments;
  • Participate in administrative and organizational tasks related to such duties as are described above;
  • Make an active contribution to the policies, guidelines, and aspirations of the school;
  • Engage in transdisciplinary collaborative planning with other teachers who teach the year level;
  • Engage in the House (Dynasty) system responsibilities of a teacher;
  • Take responsibility for the safety of students through supervision duties;
  • Assist with or manage specialist functions such as sports, excursions, after-school activities and, camp coordination;
  • Perform other responsibilities which may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the Head of Primary and/or Principal.

  • Planning, collaboration, and team-building processes;

  • Research-based assessment practices for, as, and of learning;
  • The Primary Years Programme (PYP).
     

    3. Experience 

  • Teaching the Chinese language in the IB-PYP required; 
  • As a primary practitioner.
     


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any subject and a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) or equivalent
  • Teacher Registration holder
  • Must be a permanent Hong Kong resident or possess a valid visa to work in Hong Kong
