Job Summary:

The Data Engineering Intern will assist in the development, maintenance, and optimisation of our data infrastructure. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of data engineering, including data extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), data warehousing, and data analytics. The intern will work closely with experienced data/system engineers and contribute to projects directly impacting our business.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to understand their data requirements and provide necessary data support.
• Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into our data warehouse.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of data pipelines using tools such as Prisma, TypeScript, and Postgres DB, integrating with our current cloud infrastructure
• Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines, and automating data quality checks to maintain reliability
• Learn and apply best practices for data warehousing and data modeling.
• Assist in the documentation of enterprise data solutions and cloud infrastructure.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving code quality.
• Explore and evaluate new data engineering technologies and tools.
• Gain practical experience in the full data engineering development lifecycle, contributing to the creation of efficient and reliable data systems

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of data modeling and proficient in SQL for data querying and manipulation.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or TypeScript.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes is a plus.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.
• Passion for data and technology.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with stream and batch data processing, and message queueing systems for building and deploying scalable data pipelines.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools for scheduling, monitoring, and managing data pipelines.
• Experience with data analytics and reporting tools for visualizing data and generating actionable insights
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Familiarity with containerisation technologies (Docker) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
