Highway Contract no.: 14/HY/2024 Highways Department Term Contract (Management and Maintenance of Roads on Hong Kong Island excluding Expressways and High Speed Roads 2025 – 2030)

We are looking for a Tree Specialist (TS) to lead tree inspections, risk assessments, and arboricultural maintenance for highway-registered slopes and designated planted areas.

Responsibilities:

Conduct tree inspections, risk assessments, and supervise tree maintenance works.
Provide expert advice on the care, preservation, and protection of sensitive trees, including Old and Valuable Trees (OVT), Stone Wall Trees (SWT), and trees in the Tree Monitoring List.
Oversee and monitor arboricultural treatments and mitigation measures.
Conduct intensive inspections after severe weather events and submit reports.
Supervise and provide guidance to the Senior Vegetation Inspection Officer (SVIO), Vegetation Inspection Officer (VIO), and Assistant Vegetation Inspection Officer (AVIO).

Requirements (Must Fulfill All of the Following):

Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in arboriculture, tree management, tree risk assessment, or landscape management (HKQF Level 5 or above).
Certification: Recognized certification in arboriculture, such as:
Certified Arborist, Certified Arborist Utility Specialist, Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist, or Board Certified Master Arborist (International Society of Arboriculture).
Technician Member, Professional Member, or Fellow Member (Arboricultural Association, UK).
European Tree Worker or European Tree Technician (European Arboricultural Council).
General Member of the National Arborists Association of Australia (issued on or before 31 Dec 2010).
Registered Qualified Arborist, Registered Practicing Arborist, Registered Consulting Arborist, or Registered Consulting & Practicing Arborist (Arboriculture Australia).
Accredited Arborist (Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects).
Equivalent qualifications.
Training: Completed Tree Risk Assessment Training recognized by the Development Bureau (e.g., ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification, Lantra Professional Tree Inspection).
Safety Knowledge: Relevant training in occupational safety and health related to tree work operations.
Experience: At least three (3) years of post-qualification work experience in tree care and tree risk assessment/management, plus eight (8) years of documented experience in the care of sensitive trees.
