The German Swiss International School (GSIS) is one of Hong Kong's leading international schools providing quality, holistic education to a multinational student body of approximately 1300 students and 240 faculty and staff. The school is organised into two Streams, German and English leading to qualifications in the German International Abitur and I/GCSE & IBDP respectively. We are inviting applications for the following position commencing as soon as possible or as mutually agreed.

The Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory work. The role of the laboratory technician is to maintain, order, receive and stock supplies; dispose of hazardous waste materials; maintain and test equipment; maintain cleanliness in laboratories; and assist the faculty and students with experiments and lab. 

What is required 

• To take care of departmental animals and plants
• To prepare fresh specimens
• To work closely with teachers to support IA/EE
• To instruct laboratory attendants in the work of the laboratories and the preparation rooms.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in laboratory and monitor the repair of lab equipment.
• Prepare demonstrations and experiments as well as assist faculty while performing teaching demonstrations.
• Issue equipment and return it to inventory once usage is complete.
• Maintain equipment and apparatus in a clean and functioning state, conduct annual inventory and assist in capital purchases. 
• Authorise service from outside vendors and purchase expendable supplies.
• Maintain and update policy manual and pertinent records including accident and waste disposal records.
• Assist in the running of exceptional laboratory-based exercises such as practical examinations and open days.

What we are looking for

• High school diploma with training equivalent to one (1) year practical trades or other technical/vocational training beyond high school; supplemented with 2-3 years of related experience.
• Holder of a valid Laboratory Technician's Certificate.
• High proficiency in spoken and written English, Chinese preferred.
• Experience working in an educational environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with hazardous materials (Biology).
