Salary: HK$44,765 - HK$49,230 per month (depending on relevant qualification and experience)
Entry Requirements:Candidates should –
(a) (i) have a Master degree in Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Data Science, Quantitative Analysis or Statistics from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent; or
(ii) have a postgraduate diploma in Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Data Science, Quantitative Analysis or Statistics from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent, with 2 years’ relevant full time post qualification working experience;
(b) in addition to requirement (a), another 2 years’ relevant full time post qualification working experience in conducting public health, epidemiology, social behaviour research/ survey; risk communication; viral / microbiological research/ survey; infectious diseases forecasting model development; data management and analysis; statistical programming; or participation in the development, testing and management of information system and large databases is preferred;
(c) meet the Language Proficiency Requirement:
(i) Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) or Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or equivalent [Remark(1)]; or
(ii) have (1) Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature and (2) Use of English at “Grade E” or above in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE), or equivalent; and
(d) be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English.

Remarks:
1. For appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 3” in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth;
2. Candidates invited for the selection interview may be required to take a written test;
3. May be deployed to position(s) for handling duties related to public health or epidemiology research/ survey;
4. May be required to work shift and irregular hours; and
5. Applicants should submit copies of the relevant documents in support of their (i) academic qualifications; (ii) language proficiency; and (iii) proof of relevant full time post qualification working experience (if applicable).
Duties:
A Research Officer (Public Health) will be mainly deployed to perform the following duties –
(a) carry out studies, including evaluation studies, on public health issues and prepare study reports;
(b) provide technical advice and support on medical statistics and research;
(c) coordinating the collection, compilation and analysis of public health data and test results validation;
(d) monitor, collate, review and appraise scientific and medical literature/evidence on public health issues;
(e) monitor the conduct of surveys and research;
(f) carry out environmental health risk assessments / studies; and
(g) carry out any other duties as assigned by senior officers.
Terms of Appointment:Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service terms up to one year. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate.
Fringe Benefits
Candidates appointed for a contract period of less than 12 months, the paid annual leave entitled will be calculated on a pro-rata basis based on 14 days' paid annual leave. Other benefits such as rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave / paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 57).
