Background
EDU 8847EED Professional Skills: Teaching English Language in Primary Schools (Practicum) is a 6-credit-unit, 8000-level, and year-long course for students of the Certificate in Education programme (distance-learning mode). This course is presented in English.
This Course Aims To Develop Students’
- critical understanding of the educational context of Hong Kong;
- ability to act as reflective practitioners for continuous improvement;
- capacity in different levels of planning in English language teaching;
- ability to adapt and create materials to facilitate learning and teaching;
- awareness of language issues in the classroom;
- ability to critically evaluate and apply various approaches and strategies in the teaching of English; and
- recognition of Language Arts and Language Across the curriculum as effective ways of English learning and teaching.
Responsibilities
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:
- Preparing a course guide;
- Developing new course contents;
- Developing teaching and learning materials; and
- Developing assessment items.
Candidates
Candidates Are Expected To Possess The Following
- A higher degree, and preferably an earned doctoral degree, in an area related to primary school education, mathematics education, mathematics, statistics or other related areas;
- An excellent command of written Chinese, effective communication skills and the ability to work independently; and
- Preference will be given to those who have experience in designing teaching and/or materials design at tertiary level.
