Overview

We are assisting a prestigious global hedge fund in its expansion into the Hong Kong market. This is a unique opportunity to take on a leadership role in establishing the firm’s presence in the region, overseeing the office set-up, and driving the firm's market entry strategy. The focus will be on building and executing a robust private wealth distribution strategy for hedge fund products and alternative investment solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess a holistic, strategic perspective with prior experience leading a firm’s Hong Kong wealth business. They should have deep expertise in alternative investments, a strong network within the Hong Kong private wealth ecosystem, and a proven entrepreneurial mindset to spearhead the firm’s entry into the market from the ground up.


Key Responsibilities

As the Hong Kong Office Lead, you will:

  1. Office Establishment :
  • Serve as the Responsible Officer (RO) for the Hong Kong entity during its early stages.
  • Oversee all aspects of office establishment, from identifying office space to handling initial administrative and operational tasks.
  1. Regional Presence and Leadership :
  • Represent the firm as the Hong Kong lead for its private wealth business, serving as the face of the firm in the region.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including private wealth distributors, clients, and industry partners.
  • Act as a thought leader, promoting the firm’s value proposition and strengthening its reputation in the private wealth space.
  1. Strategic Planning and Execution :
  • Collaborate with APAC regional offices and global headquarters to develop, refine, and execute the firm’s private wealth and market entry strategies for Hong Kong.
  • Drive client-facing activities, including distribution strategies, manager onboarding, product onboarding, and full-cycle sales and distribution processes.
  • Leverage your holistic view of the wealth business to identify opportunities for growth and ensure strategic alignment with the firm’s global objectives.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement :
  • Act as the primary point of contact for global internal and external stakeholders, managing cross-border communication and collaboration across different time zones.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal teams and counterparties across APAC and the headquarters to ensure seamless execution of regional strategies.


Key Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. Experience :
  • 12 to 16 years of relevant experience, preferably in the hedge fund or alternative investment space.
  • Prior experience leading a firm’s Hong Kong wealth business, with a proven track record of success in developing and executing strategies.
  • Strong familiarity with hedge fund products or a solid understanding of sophisticated alternative product structures and strategies.
  • A demonstrated ability to oversee distribution strategies, manager onboarding, product onboarding, and the full lifecycle of client-facing activities.
  1. Market Knowledge :
  • In-depth understanding of the Hong Kong private wealth distribution landscape, including mainstream private banks, family offices, and other distributors.
  1. Holistic Perspective and Leadership :
  • A strategic, holistic view of the wealth business, coupled with the ability to identify opportunities, drive growth, and align regional initiatives with global objectives.
  • A proven entrepreneurial spirit, with experience setting up and growing a business from the ground up, and a willingness to take on diverse responsibilities beyond domain expertise.
  1. Stakeholder Management :
  • Experience managing relationships with global stakeholders, including those across different time zones.
  1. Language Skills :
  • Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Mandarin is a strong advantage.
  1. Execution and Adaptability :
