SCHOOL OF CONTINUING EDUCATION

The School of Continuing Education, one of the eight Faculties/Schools/Academy of the University and a major provider of continuing and professional education in Hong Kong, offers a wide range of full-time and part-time programmes at the post-secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate levels for young learners and working adults. It also offers in-house training and short courses to meet the community needs and market demands. Operated on a self-financed basis, the School and its College of International Education currently employ about 400 full-time staff and 500 part-time instructors. The School is inviting applications for the following position:

Senior Information Technology Manager (24250184) 

Responsibilities: 

  • Report to the Head of Information Technology of the School and play a key role in development of large-scale IT implementation projects; 
  • Engage and manage diverse internal stakeholders, including academic divisions and administrative departments, to ensure that all migration efforts align with the University's strategic objectives;
  • Collaborate with internal users to understand their requirements and translate them into user stories for workflow in various system implementation;
  • Identify, evaluate, and supervise third-party vendors and consultants, including contract negotiation and compliance monitoring;
  • Analyse data and generate insights to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement;
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and user satisfaction;
  • Keep abreast of advanced technology and assess the applicability to teaching and learning activities of the School;
  • Provide consultation services and ongoing support and maintenance to internal users and external hires on using IT facilities; and
  • Perform other IT projects and assignments as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A recognised bachelor’s degree or higher in an IT-related discipline;
  • At least 10 years of relevant proven experience with at least 5 years leading the development team in systems design, development, and project management of enterprise-level information systems;
  • Experience gained in a higher education environment will be an advantage;
  • Proven experience in in project management, particularly in managing large-scale system migrations and implementations;
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate the work of others;
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as PowerBuilder, Java, PHP, Python and RESTful API would be highly desirable;
  • Strong technical skills are required in designing databases, optimising performance, and writing stored procedures for MS SQL Server, MySQL, and Sybase;
  • Practical experience with PeopleTools, PeopleQuery and BI reporting tools is preferred;
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and experience with low-code programming platforms would be beneficial;
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent and demonstrated experience in the Agile project management methodologies preferable;
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills; and
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Cantonese.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written assessment.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract ending in August 2027. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
