Computer Technician II (carrying the job title of ‘System Engineer and Administrator’) (Ref. 250000LR) (Closing date: April 30, 2025)
The Department is looking for a dynamic and passionate Computer Technician II to join the development team of Knowledge and Education Exchange Platform (KEEP) and VeriGuide as a System Engineer and Administrator.
The appointee will be responsible for (a) Infrastructure Management: leading the deployment, maintenance, installation, and configuration of large-scale computer systems, network equipment, SAN hardware, and virtualization solutions on both Windows and Linux platforms, and ensuring reliable and efficient operations; (b) System Service Maintenance: regularly updating, monitoring, and maintaining critical system services, including operating systems, web servers, and databases, to ensure the performance and security standards are met; (c) Technical Support and Troubleshooting: providing expert-level technical support to project teams, and resolving challenges promptly to maintain project momentum and success; and (d) Event Support: actively participating in project events, such as demonstrations and seminars, offering technical expertise and ensuring the seamless operation of system and network setups.
Applicants should have (i) a Diploma/ Certificate from a recognized polytechnic or a technical institute, preferably with a Bachelor’s Degree or above in Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines is preferred; (ii) at least 1 year’s relevant work experience; (iii) good analytical, creative-thinking, organisational, and communication skills; (iv) good command in Java, C/C++, Python, SQL, Web programming, CSS, Shell Scripts, or other programming languages; (v) experience in system infrastructure and network planning, administration, hardware maintenance, software configuration, and security hardening; (vi) proficiency in managing various systems and platforms, including but not limited to Windows and Linux platforms, web application servers such as PHP, J2EE, and Apache, database management systems such as Oracle and MySQL; and (vii) the ability to work independently and also in a team environment.
Appointment will initially be made on a 1-year contract, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
