The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes.  The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations. 

(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance. )

You will be responsible for:

  • supporting the Exhibition Technical Support Manager in the planning and production of fabrication, installation, maintenance and dismantling of museum exhibitions including but not limited to partition wall, multimedia equipment, lighting fixture, display case, plinth and mounts, graphics and labels;
  • overseeing day-to-day activities of related to technical aspects of the fabrication and art installation, and gallery maintenance;
  • assisting the exhibition preparation across the museum and instruct external contractors and stakeholders on technical needs and requirements;
  • assisting with the scheduling, coordination, installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of in gallery equipment, and controls;
  • jointly overseeing inventory and storage of equipment and management of assets;
  • ensuring good procedures for the accurate tracking of the location of equipment moved during exhibition and storage works is adhered to museum best practice standards;
  • cataloging and indexing image collections and maintaining digital image storage systems; and
  • performing other job duties as assigned by the supervisor.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree in any discipline with a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in related field;
  • have the experience of working in fabrication, woodwork, lighting, or multimedia related work;
  • have sound knowledge of the principles and practices of Risk Management, Health & Safety and Manual Handling;
  • be a team player and independent whereas at the same time working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment;
  • possess good problem-solving skills and communication skills, pay attention to details and be self-motivated and organised;
  • be experience with digital archiving and photo editing which is an advantage;
  • possess proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese with good command of Putonghua;
  • have computer literate in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite is an advantage;
  • be available and willing to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, for events if necessary.
